Aaahhh, good, we are back to posting classic flies again
Beautiful Tom, as usual. The dressing for the Bumblepuppy is something I have always wondered about. I have seen it tyed more than a few ways, but not as cleanly as yours. Anyway, good to see your work again, gets my mind off splitting firewood and pushing snow. CJ |

Fly looks great. I do more night fishing than any other kind and I have tried to make the Bumble Puppy version that you see in the Sparse Grey Hackle book but
do not like how mine has came out. It has a sparse bucktail wing that you double over and cut part of the bucktail to the middle of the shank. You then put a
turkey wing on top of it and I just do not like the look. Have fished it and caught a few trout on it but it has not been a killer pattern like the infamous
" Deushbag" streamer. Would love to be able to yell out
to other fisherman that I caught that one on a Deushbag but there is never anyone out when I am fishing. My biggest brown to date at night is 12 LB native
brown that was taken on a stream in Monroe County in NY. Have many pictures of the Brown and it is hanging in our family room. Years ago someone took a native
15 pound brown.
Night fishing is my thing and I am always looking for new ideas. That pattern looks great., much better than the one in the book. What did you use for the wing and what is the rest of the pattern made up of. Also what lenght hook do you use. bohemian Bob

Hi Tom Hope you are Martha are doing well. Will be heading to the Catskills hopefully this Thursday to close my friends camp and visit friends such as Frank
Kuttner, Dennis Menser and Larry at Beaverkill Traders. I also have a line on some cane rods to look at. There goes my fly tying money again. If you have not
checked out Dennis's work you should. He is an amazing craftsmen. Ordered a 7' four and cast his Payne 7'6" for a four and both have that
great Catskill feel.
The fishing has improved up here now that the water is up. There is also a great stream 45 minutes away that is full on native browns. Give me a call some weekend when the temps are in the mid to upper 30's. Hopefully you have finally been able to enjoy your place on the Beaverkill. Next year will better.
