I have a bamboo fly rod marked on the metal butt E.F.Payne, it is 9' and is 3 pc. 2 tips, all lengths are the same, all are nice and straight, the 2 tips
are in a nice early bamboo tube with a brass screw on knob, the 2 tips are in the nicest condition one has an agate guide the other conventional, the finish on
the two lower sections are rough, from age I am sure, can someone tell me the value, should I have it refinished before I sell it? thanks Norm

need more info, get a scale from a kitchen shop cost about 35 bucks or take it down to the post office you need a very accurate scale and weight it with one
tip, then we can tell you the value, you might be able to polish out the butt section, with talcum powder and it might set up on you, a good restoration will
cost 400, rod value from 700-1600 in mint condtion depending on size of rod, lighter rods worth much more, if your going to sell it i would not mess with the
rod you might get more like it is, and your rod is an early payne, 1920-30's due to the tip tube and glass tip top, also you need to know what kind of
cane, older rods came from calcuta and are not worth as much

Under no circumstances should you have it refinished if you are going to sell it. This may actually reduce the value. If the new owner wishes to have it
restored, let them make that decision. Photographs always help in evaluation if you have that capability.

Paynes in nice condition have a fair amount of value. I wouldn't consider selling it until you've posted photos here, & gotten some expert
feedback!

Norman,
If you can make the trip to Cape Neddick (York ME) on April 5th (a Saturday) I will be hosting an Antique Tackle Appraisal at the Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop from 9-4 and would be happy to go over the rod with you. Regards............ banjo
