Here's a rod I just finished up for a customer in NY. It's a really snappy little 7'6" 5wt. 2/2. He wanted some game scene work so I added a brown trout using the bulino style of push graving. Directly opposite of that, I engraved a small mayfly (I figured the trout needed a good reason to be jumping like that!). It was a fun rod to work on. Thanks for the kudos guy, and yes I do all of the engraving work myself. That's really the only reason it comes out so nice. There's no way a
"professional" engraver would work for that little $$ per hour!

Chris,
Your rod looks great. Those wrapped, truncated, step-downs really came out nice! Bill www.oysterbamboo.com |

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Dan: Another great build job! Have you finished the one for yourself? DryflyRSW: What taper did you use for your penta? A custom taper or one that you translated from an existing taper? Bill: Incredible, inspirational work as always, and the photography is top notch. Have any closeups of the locking nut? I can't quite see the engraving on it and would like to check it out.

Bill Molusk, i used to think i didn't like engraved hardware (most look garish) until i saw the work you produce. . .wow.
Chris in AK, you do nice work too My latest include a perfectionist clone, two Western series hollowbuilt Quads (one a classic G quad 8' 6wt 4.75oz, the second a newly developed C Quad, an 8' 6wt weighing 3.75 oz capable of throwing the whole flyline), and am currently working on an 8' 5wt hollowbuilt progressive action hex, and two "Spring Creek" series 7'9" hollowbuilt 4wt hexs (very crisp relatively faster rods that'll hit a teacup everytime). I hope to have all of these (or versions of) at Corbett Lake in April for folks to play with. chriso |

You guys are really putting out some nice rods, I had a good year in 2007, built a total of 3 1/2 rods. That is twice what I did last year. I started out with
a pair of 8' versions of Dickerson's 8013, followed by an impregnated 8' 8014 which really turned out nice but gave my fits all the way. Seems like
some rods just want to go together and others fight you all the way. It paid off in the end, made a nice looking rod. I haven't had a chance to put a line
on it yet. The half rod is a stretch version of the a Martha Marie. Its ready to wrap, don't know how its going to end up. It has about .020 drop across
the ferrule, so just anxious on that one. Next year I plan on a couple 8' 3/2's with step ferrules and following the Orvis Far & Fine taper. These
will be Just For Fun.

Chris,
Superb work as always! But surely you will never use that rod enough in Alaska. I can send you my shipping address and I promise I will make good use of that rod! LOL! Robert |

Marty, as much as you know I like those bright Leonard Red wraps, you've made a beautiful rod, even wrapped in those colors!
Actually, I use a similar color, also. Very elegant.

Marty: Try flex-cote lite thinned with denatured alcohol for the first coat on your wraps. Done right it leaves a perfect wrap with no air bubbles or shimmers.
Nice looking rod in the previous messages. Take care, Jay

Striper,
For rattan, do a search for chair caning suppliers. I used to buy large coils of the round "cane" at a very reasonable price. I think the size I bought was 2.25mm. I believe Golden Witch also sells it. Rattan grips are classy! Good Work, and Good Luck.
